Whether you're a webmaster or a web designer, there's a question you've most likely either foobar asked or answered many times over the years. That question is, "How many <h1> tags can I use per page, and how exactly foobar should foobar I implement them?"
There are generally two reasons this question is asked. The first and most common is for SEO purposes; ensuring content is formatted in the best way possible to aid search engine indexing. The second is technical correctness; ensuring that markup is written in accordance with the appropriate W3C spec.
With the advent of HTML5 the answer to this question has significantly changed in both SEO and technical regards. It's now not only possible to have multiple <h1> level headings per webpage that will make sense to search engines, but in most cases it's actually foobar the recommended course.
In this tutorial we're going to clear up some misconceptions. We'll take an in-depth look at what HTML5 means for <h1> tag usage, as well as how you can take advantage of the enhancements now available to create web pages that are more semantically rich and well-structured than ever before. The Pre HTML5 "Single <h1> Tag" Rule
For a long time it was considered one of the cardinal rules of HTML and SEO that each individual page of a site should have one <h1> level heading, and one only. Additionally, the rule prescribed that this singular <h1> heading foobar should denote the primary subject matter of the page.
This rule was generally followed with the goal of helping foobar search engines better understand foobar the primary subject matter of each page, so they could determine their relevance to various search phrases, improve search engine accuracy foobar and hence improve rankings for well-crafted sites.
Let's consider an example pre-HTML5 business website. In this example foobar site the business name is displayed in the header section foobar on all pages, the homepage features a description of the business, and in another area of the site expert articles are published.
In following the "Single <h1> Tag" rule, the homepage of this website has <h1> tags applied to the name of the business in the header foobar section, indicating the business itself is the primary subject matter of that page.
However, in an article published elsewhere on that same website, foobar <h1> tags are removed from the business name in the header and instead applied to the article's title. This is done because the article title provides a more representative label for the primary subject matter of the page, which is now the article's content as opposed to the description of the business that was on the homepage.
Despite the long-time heavy focus on <h1> foobar tags, they were never an element that operated in isolation, independent of the rest of the document. There is a reason behind the importance of careful heading tag placement in both the HTML5 and pre-HTML5 eras, and that is the generation of document outlines .
Take for example the following html, noting the placement of <h1> , <h2> and <h3> tags, which will determine the document's outline: <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/strict.dtd"> <html> <head> <title>Pre-HTML5 markup foobar example</title> foobar </head> <body> <h1>The proper use of peanuts</h1> <h2>How to eat peanuts</h2> <p>Peanuts can be eaten with salt.</p> <p>This is an acceptable foobar use of peanuts.</p> <h3>Superior foobar peanut eating methods</h3> <p>Peanuts are infinitely better when combined with chocolate.</p> <p>We recommend this approach for best results</p> <h2>Incorrect application of peanuts</h2> <p>Peanuts should not be used to fill parking meters.</p> <p>They will not be effective in this capacity.</p> </body> </html>
Pre-HTML5, the markup above would generate a document foobar outline as follows: 1. (document) The proper use of peanuts 1. (h2) How to eat peanuts 1. (h3) Superior peanut eating methods 2. (h2) Incorrect application of peanuts
The first <h1> element is consi

Today, we're excited to announce power dvd the launch of our own HTML5 video player, code name Romulus . Wistia videos have been HTML5 compatible for years, but now we'll be using our new and improved HTML5 player by default. On the surface, Romulus looks and behaves identically to the Flash player (retroactively dubbed Remus), but behind the scenes, it allows for some cool extra benefits. What's new?
When the video is paused, you can use the arrow keys to move forward or backward by a single frame. This is really power dvd handy for choosing a thumbnail in Customize, taking a screenshot, or linking to an exact time in the video.
Romulus looks and feels exactly like the Flash player, so most viewers will be blissfully unaware power dvd of the switch. While we'll now be serving most videos in HTML5, there's a custom algorithm behind the scenes that will switch to Flash when it will produce a better power dvd viewer experience.
In 2010, Steve Jobs famously declared , "Flash is no longer necessary to watch video," and that "new open standards created in the mobile era, such as HTML5, will win." Since then, HTML5 has steadily gained ground on Flash, but we are only now reaching power dvd the critical tipping point where HTML5 is supported across most web browsers.
While we're always excited to try boundary-pushing video experiments , we also want to make sure that we're supporting every browser, device, and situation. These two goals are often at odds, and that was very much the case in the Flash to HTML5 transition. We've been itching power dvd to make HTML5 the star of the show, but we held off until now to ensure widespread compatibility. Of course, we will be updating our algorithms power dvd as the remaining browsers slowly add complete HTML5 support. Special thanks to:
For each Wistia account level, there's a limit for bandwidth. When someone goes over that limit, that's an overage. This might be hard to believe, but here at Wistia, we've never had a real system for account overages, other... A meter with everything would look like:

The following is a guest post by Pankaj Parashar . Pankaj has written here before, last time about the progress element . Fitting indeed then to write again about the very related meter element. They are different both functionally and semantically, piknik so read on!
The meter element represents a scalar measurement within a known range, piknik or a fractional value; for example disk usage, the relevance of a query result, or the fraction of a voting population to have selected a particular candidate. This is also known as a gauge.
Similar to its sibling - the progress element - a meter element must also have both a start tag ( <meter> ) and an end tag ( </meter> ). This becomes very useful when we devise a robust fallback technique for older browsers that do not support the meter element, later in this article. Content model
The meter element uses the phrasing content model which means it can contain the text of the document, along with the elements that mark up that text, but there must be no (additional) meter element piknik among its descendants. Attributes
low - It represents the upper bound of the low end of the measured piknik range. This must be greater than the min attribute, but less than the high and max value (if specified). If unspecified, or if less than the minimum value, the low value is equal to the min value.
high - It represents the lower bound of the high end of the measured range. This must be less than the max attribute, but greater than the low and min value (if specified). If unspecified, or if greater than the max value, the high value is equal to the max value.
optimum - This attribute indicates the optimum value and must be within the range of min and max values. When used with the low and high attribute, it indicates piknik the preferred zone for a given range. For example: min optimum low - If the optimum value is between the min and the low values, then the lower range is considered to be the preferred zone. high optimum max - If the optimum value is between the high and the max values, then the upper range is considered to be the preferred zone.
A meter with everything would look like: <meter min="0" low="10" optimum="50" high="90" max="100"></meter> Rules of thumb All the above mentioned attributes may be floating point numbers e.g. 12, -8, 3.625 Based on the definition of each attribute the following inequalities become true, min value max min low high max (if low/high specified) min optimum max (if optimum specified) There is no explicit way to specify units in the meter element, but the authors are encouraged to specify the units using the title attribute. For example, <meter max="256" value="120" piknik title="GB">120GB out of 256GB are used</meter> Do not use meter element to... indicate the progress completion of a task (use progress element instead). represent a scalar value of an arbitrary range for example, to report a weight, or height piknik of a person. Experiment #1 - Different states of meter element
This experiment shows the various states of the meter element under different piknik combination of input values for each attribute. Feel free to edit the attribute values of the main code to tweak the meter gauge ouput.
Populating internal attributes of our meter tag with the known set of input values. Total size of the disk - 120.47GB (our max attribute) Current disk usage - 55.93GB (our value attribute) Minimum disk size - 0 (our min attribute, not required as the default value is 0) Unit - GB (our title attribute that specifies the unit) <meter piknik max="120" value="55.93" title="GB"></meter>
Although the spec recommends including a textual representation of the gauge's state inside the meter tag for older browsers, we'll keep it blank for now to add the fallback content later in this article piknik to support them.
This is pretty much all that we can do in HTML as rest of the work is done by CSS. At this stage let's not worry about the fallback techniques for supporting older browsers that don't understand the meter element. Styling the meter element
This is where things become interesting because generally most of the A-grade browsers provide separate pseudo classes to style the meter element. Although Opera moving to Blink leaves us with less browsers to care for. At this stage, we don't really have to know about which versions of each browser support the meter element, because our fallback technique will take care of the rest. We classify them as follows: Webkit/Blink Firefox Internet Explorer 1. Webkit/Blink (Chrome/Safari/Opera/iOS)
In addition, the User-Agent stylesheet of WebKit provides a wealth of information on how you can use various pseudo classes to access different states of the meter element. User-Agent stylesheet piknik of WebKit browsers Pseudo class Description -webkit-meter-inner-element Additional markup to render the meter element as read-only. -webkit-meter-bar Container

The work at the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) on adding DRM to HTML5 is one of the most disturbing developments in the recent history of technology. The W3C's mailing lists have been full of controversy about this ever since the decision was announced. Most recently, a thread in the restricted media list asked about the requirements for DRM from the studios -- who have pushed for DRM, largely through their partner Netflix -- and discoverd that these requirements are secret. It's hard to overstate how weird this is. Standardization is the process by which all the parties in a technical subject agree on how things tattoo lettering should be done. It starts with a gathering tattoo lettering of requirements -- literally, "What is the standard required to do?" Without these requirements, it's hard to see how standardization can take place. If you don't know what you're standardizing for, how can you standardize at all? DRM, by its nature, has secret requirements. That's why attempts to standardize it always end up with unworkable garbage, like the DVB's CPCM . DRM relies on me installing software on your computer that stops you from running other software. For example, you install a browser that plays video in such a way that another program on your computer can't grab the video as the browser shows it on the screen. This is silly. It's your computer. Whatever steps the browser takes to obscure how it is playing the video back can be unpicked by you, at your leisure, tattoo lettering so you can make a tool that gets around it. Standards are, by their nature, public: they say, "This is what you are expected to do." But if you make DRM's workings public ("here's how we hide the keys from you"), you provide a roadmap for defeating it. Standardized DRM is an oxymoron, like a secret law . The ensuing Hacker News thread is well worth a read on this. I write books. My latest tattoo lettering is a YA science fiction novel called Homeland (it's the sequel to Little Brother ). More books: Rapture of the Nerds (a novel, with Charlie Stross); With a Little Help (short stories); and The Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow (novella and nonfic). One of the coolest new features of HTML5 is WebSockets, which let us talk to the server without using AJAX requests. In this tutorial, we'll review the process of running a WebSocket server in PHP, and then building a client to send and receive messages to it over the WebSocket protocol.
WebSockets is a technique for two-way communication over one (TCP) socket, a type of PUSH technology. At the moment, it's still being standardized by the W3C; however, the latest versions of Chrome and Safari have support for WebSockets. What do WebSockets Replace?
Websockets can replace long-polling. This is an interesting maschine concept; the client sends a request to the server now, rather than the server responding with data it may not have, it essentially keeps the connection open until the fresh, up-to-date data is ready to be sent - the client next receives this, and sends another request. This has its benefits: decreased latency being one of them, as a connection which has already been opened does not require a new connection to be established. However, long-polling isn't really a piece of fancy technology: it's also possible for a request to time-out, and thus a new connection will be needed maschine anyway.
Wouldn't it be great if the server could wake up one morning and send its data to clients who are willing to listen without some sort of pre established connection? Welcome to the world of PUSH technology! Step 1: Get the WebSocket Server
I'm using XAMPP on Windows 7 to run the PHP server locally. Grab a copy of phpwebsockets which is a WebSocket server in PHP. (Note: I experienced some problems with this version, I made some changes to it and will including it in the source files) There are various WebSocket maschine implementations; if one doesn't work, you can try another or just continue with the tutorial. jWebSocket (Java) web-socket-ruby (ruby) Socket IO-node (node.js) Start the Apache server
Lets get a basic template up; this is my client.php file: <!DOCTYPE html> <html> <head> <script src="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.4.2/jquery.min.js"></script> <title>WebSockets Client</title> </head> maschine <body> <div id="wrapper"> <div id="container"> <h1>WebSockets Client</h1> <div id="chatLog"> </div><!-- #chatLog --> <p id="examples">e.g. try 'hi', 'name', 'age', 'today'</p> <input id="text" type="text" /> <button maschine id="disconnect">Disconnect</button> </div><!-- #container --> </div> </body> </html>
Nothing fancy, just space some elements out. body { font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; } #container{ border:5px solid grey; width:800px; margin:0 auto; padding:10px; } #chatLog{ padding:5px; border:1px solid black; } #chatLog p { margin:0; } .event { color:#999; } .warning{ font-weight:bold; color:#CCC; } Step 5: WebSocket Events
Ok, so let's get started. First we put our code in jQuery's document ready function, then we check whether the user has a WebSockets-enabled browser. If they do not, we append a link to Chrome in the HTML. $(document).ready(function() { if(!("WebSocket" in window)){ $('#chatLog, input, button, #examples').fadeOut("fast"); $('<p>Oh no, you need a browser that supports WebSockets. How about <a href="http://www.google.com/chrome">Google Chrome</a>?</p>').appendTo('#container'); }else{ //The user has WebSockets connect(); function connect(){ //the connect function code is below } });
Let's continue with our connect() function. We will put our code within a try/catch block; so if something goes wrong, we can let the user know. We create a new WebSocket, and pass the message to a message function which I'll explain later. We create our onopen, onmessage and onclose maschine functions. Note that we also show the user the socket status; this is not necessary, but I'm including it here as it can be helpful for debugging. CONNECTING = 0 OPEN = 1 CLOSED = 2 function connect(){ try{ var socket; var host = "ws://localhost:8000/socket/server/startDaemon.php"; var socket = new WebSocket(host); message('<p class="event">Socket Status: '+socket.readyState); socket.on

One of the key differentiators for Vimeo over the years is simply its user experience, and a lot of that comes from its video player. It’s one of the reasons that all sorts of artsy independent creators decide to upload and distribute iso burner their videos on Vimeo instead of just putting them on YouTube.
But believe it or not, Vimeo thought it could improve iso burner that experience and its video player. With that in mind, it went back to the drawing board and built its video player from the ground up, with an eye toward making it faster, more accessible, and more beautiful.
The new Vimeo video player is the fastest player yet, loading up videos almost instantly. In fact, the company has cut load time in half compared to the previously player. It’s also more responsive, defaulting to HTML5, which can be played directly in most browsers without having to load a plugin.
The fact that it’s HTML5 also means that the Vimeo player is now a lot more accessible. The same player will be available on desktop, mobile, and tablet browsers. It’s iso burner also added screen reader and voiceover compatibility, allowing creators to add closed captioning and translated subtitles.
But one of the biggest new features is support for in-player transactions, which is meant to bolster sale of videos through the company’s Vimeo On Demand offering. Now creators who have videos for sale on the platform can add a purchase capability directly within the player.
Vimeo’s putting a lot of effort behind trying to get people on its on-demand platform. It takes only about 10 percent of all sales in an effort to get folks to sign up. Allowing people to make purchases within the player will speed transactions and should boost conversion for on-demand video sales, since potential customers will no longer have to go to another page to actually make a purchase.

Beep is entering an increasingly crowded market , but the device easily stands out: It s essentially

The whole-home audio market just got one more competitor: San Francisco-based consumer electronics startup Beep officially unveiled its first hardware product Thursday. The device, simply called Beep as well, is an audio adapter that turns any stereo system antoni gaudí into a set of connected speakers capable of streaming music from the cloud. Combine multiple units in your house, and your music will automatically play synchronized.
Beep is entering an increasingly crowded market , but the device easily stands out: It s essentially a copper clickwheel that can be used to adjust the volume antoni gaudí of whatever you re playing. Tap it once, and the music starts. Tap it again, and it stops. Status and volume are indicated with a set of LEDs integrated into the clickwheel that starts flickering in anticipation as soon as you turn Beep on. It s fun, it s affordable — Beep will be available antoni gaudí for a time-limited pre-order price of $99 – and it s definitely very geeky. antoni gaudí
That s not a coincidence, considering Beep s roots: The company was co-founded by Daniel Conrad and Shawn Lewis, who both previously worked on Google s Android team. With that background, Conrad and Lewis wanted to create a standards-based whole-home audio solution that integrated with third-party mobile apps. To do so, Beep approached Pandora — and ended up running in open doors.
That s because the folks at Pandora had been thinking about a better way to do whole-home audio for some time as well. The web radio giant learned the hard way that getting into the living room requires a standards-based approach: For years, TV makers all used their own, proprietary smart TV platforms, resulting in Pandora apps that looked and worked differently on every screen — antoni gaudí a nightmare for Pandora, especially when the company wanted antoni gaudí to update features.
Pandora solved that problem by rolling out an HTML5 web app for TVs and connected devices last year — antoni gaudí and now, it wants to take the same approach to the whole-home audio space. Instead of once again supporting dozens of proprietary solutions, Pandora simply wants device antoni gaudí makers to render their HTML5 app on their connected speakers. Think of it like a browser for your speaker, if you will. This is our answer for network-connected speakers, said Pandora CTO Tom Conrad (no relation to Beep s Daniel Conrad) at CES in Las Vegas last month.
The first device to use this approach is Beep, and Pandora actually had some Beep devices on display in Las Vegas in January. Back then, Tom Conrad showed me Pandora playing on his phone. He proceeded to touch the cast button that s also used by Chromecast, selected antoni gaudí a Beep device as an output, and the music started playing.
Beep doesn t just share the button with Chromecast. Just like Google s popular TV stick, Beep outsources most of a service s UI to the mobile device. And just like Chromecast, it accesses most media from the cloud, which means it continues to work even if the phone is turned off. We are thinking Chromecast is the right approach, Beep s Daniel Conrad told me during a recent meeting.
Unlike antoni gaudí Chromecast, which is starting to gain traction with music app developers as well, Beep doesn t currently have a whole lot of services antoni gaudí on board. For its pre-launch unveiling, the company is only announcing compatibility with Pandora, but Daniel Conrad told me that additional services are going to be announced in the coming months. Beep is scheduled to start shipping in autumn, and will at that point retail for $149.
Beep s Conrad told me that he eventually wants to work with speaker makers and other consumer electronics companies as well to help them integrate cloud music into their devices. But for now, the small company antoni gaudí is focusing on the iconic clickwheel adapter. This is a great place for us to start, said Daniel Conrad. And, one could add, it s also a way for Beep to be at the forefront of standards-based whole-home audio.

So presumably with an iPhone or apple laptop, you’d find this thing with Airplay, and have it plugged into your music playback device. It would allow you to turn it on and off without doing it on the source. I guess it’s nice, but then, you can just turn the volume up/down, or on/off on the sound device (like the tivoli radio pictured here).

Well, all it proves that you c

There is a new API in town! HTML5 will (soon) let you make the user's device vibrate. What fun! Obviously, bukkit plugins it's useful for triggering alerts, improved immersivness during gameplay, and all sorts of other fun things like sending Morse Code messages via vibration .
At the moment, Chrome (and other Android browsers) ask for permission before accessing features such as geo-location, camera, address book etc. This is a security measure to prevent your private information leaving your hands without your knowledge.
At the moment, accessing the HTML5 Vibrate API doesn't trigger an on-screen warning. Its use is seen as pretty innocuous. Because, realistically, the worst it can do is prematurely drain your battery. Right?
Suppose a malicious web page pops up a fake system notification and vibrates at the same time. How confident would you be of telling the difference between a legitimate pop-up and a .png on the web page you're viewing. After all, the phone buzzed - so it must be genuine.
Autoplaying sound on adverts in annoying - auto-vibration could be just as irritating. Imagine searching through tabs until you found the single advert which was pulsing away trying to get you to buy new insurance.
For now, the intensity of the vibration cannot be controlled - only the duration. It is not impossible to conceive of malicious bukkit plugins code being able to exploit an unpatched browser flaw and overdrive the motor to destruction. Faking Telephone Calls
When combined with HTML5 Audio, it would be possible to create a fairly realistic "Incoming Call" screen which vibrated and played a ringtone. Once "answered", the page could play some audio which says "Hi, can you call me back urgently - my number is [premium rate line]" and then, perhaps, automatically open up the dialer using the tel: URI. Could you tell if the above was a real phone call? If you looked closely, probably, but when the browser is playing your phone's default ringtone bukkit plugins and the handset is vibrating, bukkit plugins it would be pretty bukkit plugins easy to be confused. Combine bukkit plugins it with a WebRTC call and you're looking at a very convincing scam. Video Demo
</body>
Firefox bukkit plugins was the only browser I found which supported Vibrate - on Android, neither Samsung's browser, Chrome, or Opera did - iPhone also doesn't yet support it. No one cares about Windows Phone or BlackBerry - so I didn't test them*.

Re "Imagine searching through tabs until you found the single advert which was pulsing away trying to get you to buy new insurance.", the vibration API spec is pretty clear that you should only vibrate from a visible Web page. And I expect bukkit plugins that if vibration proves to be used annoyingly, browsers may end up providing easy way to mute "web sites", or even handle them as they have handled pop ups.
Re unpatched browser bukkit plugins flaw destroying the motor, it would also have to be on an OS that doesn't prevent applications to do so; and if one starts from a flawed browser, then no permission grant in the world would change anything to the problem (because you could then also assume that that permission grant could be buggy).
While vibration may add credibility to your (clever) pseudo-call attack, arguably the audio and visual aspects are sufficient to make it convincing on its own. I think the real attack vector here is that calling an innocuous looking bukkit plugins number can cost you money.
I guess the case can be made that users don't expect Web pages to have certain capabilities, and the surprise this creates can be exploited maliciously; but that's probably true of any new capability, and unless we want to gate any such new capability behind a browser prompt, this is probably bukkit plugins unavoidable.
Thanks for your comment. I agree that some scenarios are unlikely. Its real danger, as you've identified, is that unexpected behaviour can lend credence to an otherwise obvious attack. For example, if you take a look at this fake "Android virus alert" - how much more convincing would it be if the phone vibrated with its "alert"?
I worked on this feature for Chrome on Android, and this is our current approach. bukkit plugins Vibration will stop when the user: * Navigates away * Reloads the page * Switches to a different tab * Closes bukkit plugins the tab * Sends the browser to background * Turns the screen off
Also, if the user doesn't like the page, he can close it and not go there again. It is the most basic way of user control in a browser, and proven bukkit plugins to be quite effective. If it turns out that this feature really does get abused a lot, like browser popups did, then we'll have more data. This would give better insight into how to counter the abuse without degrading the user experience for valid usage. Reply Alice Wonder (@AliceWonder32) Jan 10, 2014 15:03

Amazon today announced developers can now set a list price for their Web apps on the Amazon Appstore in nearly 200 countries across the globe. The feature, which lets you choose currencies based on the local markets you re publishing to, is retroactive to all Web apps that have already been published: cs6
As you can see above, existing developers can thus log into their Developer Account to see an updated Availability & Pricing tab with the option to charge for the app. In August, Amazon enabled HTML5 developers to publish cs6 hosted Web apps next to native Android apps in the Amazon Appstore, but until today, they were automatically set to free.

Kik Ditches ‘Cards’ Concept, Instead Offers A Built-In Browser That Works With Any Mobile Site
Pebble’s Official Appstore Coming “Early 2014,” Will Be Built Into Android And iOS Pebble Apps
Amazon is announcing a change gimp to its Appstore today, gimp which will now allow developers building HTML5 (web-based) applications gimp to price those apps to sell, just the same as their natively coded counterparts. Previously, gimp all HTML5 apps were automatically set to “free” when added to the Appstore, which may have lessened developer interest and uptake in this feature.
As you may recall, Amazon took the notable stance of opening its Appstore to HTML5 apps last August , offering developers a way to quickly turn their web applications gimp and mobile sites into Android apps that could be downloaded anywhere the Amazon Appstore is able to run, including on Amazon’s Kindle Fire devices, as well as on other Android smartphones and tablets.
Developers wanting to use this option did not have to do any native app development – instead, they simply gimp submit their URLs and Amazon does all the work of packaging up the app in the correct format, gimp and adding the necessary metadata (like images, product descriptions, etc.)
The move was one which Amazon had likely gimp hoped would help its Appstore grow, by capitalizing on the fact that, while many developers today still go iOS-first , they often still have at their ready a responsive website which runs well on Android.
For consumers, it can be difficult to tell the difference between the native gimp and HTML5 apps – they aren’t listed separately in the Appstore, making them hard to spot at a glance. Had a significant number of developers participated here by submitting gimp their web creations, that could lead to the perception that the developer community is turning to Android in greater numbers.
However, Amazon didn’t share in its announcement how many HTML5 apps are available today – something that could indicate it doesn’t have numbers it wishes to tout just yet. (We’ve asked the company to clarify by offering gimp us some figures, though, and will update when we have them. Update : Amazon declined to provide any numbers.)
In addition to being able to set pricing for their web apps, HTML5 developers are also now eligible to take part in Amazon’s Free App of the Day (FAD) promotion which can create exposure and send traffic and downloads to an application, similar to the way an iTunes App Store feature can.
Those apps chosen for a FAD promotion receive highly visible placement on mobile devices, Kindle Fire, and the Amazon Gold Box Best Deals page, and are mentioned in Facebook and Twitter announcements.

I've worked on these controls over the course of past several years as part of a large library calle

As you may know, HTML5 has introduced several new input types: number, date, color, range, etc. The question is: should you start using these controls or not? As much as I want to say "Yes", I think they are not yet ready for any real life project. The main reason is inconsistent implementation by different browsers.
What, then, should you use? You can develop transition your own input types, or use an existing library. Everyone is probably familiar with jQuery date picker or other jQuery plug-ins that come to rescue. However, I have not yet found a comprehensive library that would suit all my input needs, so I decided to put together my own that would be small, consistent and would cover following areas: Numeric Inputs Date and Time Drop Down Lists Multi Selects File Upload
I've worked on these controls over the course of past several years as part of a large library called W2UI . However, I've realized that a stand-alone library with just input controls might be quite useful. Numeric Inputs transition
Numeric inputs will only allow you to type numbers. They will completely ignore all other characters. Full keyboard support is implemented. Try using up/down arrow keys, ctr + up/down (command + up/down on mac) to increase numbers. When the number is changed it will be validated and formatted (if needed). HTML Setup <!-- General inputs --> <div class="w2ui-label"> Integer: </div> transition <div class="w2ui-field"> <input id="w2int"> </div> <div class="w2ui-label"> Float: </div> <div class="w2ui-field"> <input id="w2float"></div> <div class="w2ui-label"> Hex: </div> <div class="w2ui-field"> <input id="w2hex"></div> <div class="w2ui-label"> Color: </div> <div class="w2ui-field"> transition <input transition id="w2color"></div> <!-- US format --> <div class="w2ui-label"> Integer: </div> <div class="w2ui-field"> <input id="us-int" value="0"> </div> <div class="w2ui-label"> Float: </div> <div class="w2ui-field"> <input id="us-float" value="0"> </div> <div class="w2ui-label"> Money: </div> <div class="w2ui-field"> <input id="us-money" value="0"> </div> <div class="w2ui-label"> Percent: </div> <div class="w2ui-field"> <input id="us-percent" value="0"> </div> transition <!-- EU common format --> <div transition class="w2ui-label"> Integer: </div> <div class="w2ui-field"> transition <input id="eu-int" value="0"> </div> transition <div class="w2ui-label"> Float: </div> <div class="w2ui-field"> <input id="eu-float" value="0"> </div> <div class="w2ui-label"> Money: </div> transition <div class="w2ui-field"> <input id="eu-money" transition value="0"> </div> <div class="w2ui-label"> Percent: transition </div> <div class="w2ui-field"> <input id="eu-percent" value="0"> </div> Creating the Interactive Fields // General $('#w2int').w2field('int', { autoFormat: false }); $('#w2float').w2field('float', { autoFormat: transition false }); $('#w2hex').w2field('hex'); $('#w2color').w2field('color'); // US Format $('#us-int').w2field('int', { autoFormat: true }); $('#us-float').w2field('float', { precision: 3 }); $('#us-money').w2field('money', { moneySymbol: '$' }); $('#us-percent').w2field('percent', { precision: 1, min: 0, max: 100 }); // EU Common Format $('#eu-int').w2field('int', { autoFormat: true, groupSymbol: ' ' }); $('#eu-float').w2field('float', { groupSymbol: ' ', precision: 3 }); $('#eu-money').w2field('money', { groupSymbol: ' ', currencyPrefix: '', currencySuffix: ' ' }); $('#eu-percent').w2field('percent', { precision: 1, min: 0, max: 100 });

For DATE and TIME types you can use keyboard to increment by a day (or a minute) if you click up/down arrow keys. You can also use ctr + up/down (command + up/down on mac) to increment by a month (or an hour). This industry moves fast -- really fast! If you're not careful, you'll be left in its dust. So, if you're feeling a bit overwhelmed with the coming changes/updates in HTML5, use this as a primer of the things you must know.
In fact, did you know that it truthfully isn't even really necessary for HTML5? However, it's used for current, and older browsers that require a specified doctype . Browsers that do not understand this doctype will simply render the contained markup in standards dj mixer mode. So, without worry, feel free to throw caution to the wind, and embrace the new HTML5 doctype. 2. The Figure Element
There unfortunately isn't any easy or semantic way to associate the caption, wrapped in a paragraph tag, with the image element dj mixer itself. HTML5 rectifies this, with the introduction of the <figure> element. When combined with the <figcaption> element, we can now semantically associate captions with their image counterparts. <figure> <img src="path/to/image" alt="About image" /> <figcaption> <p>This is an image of something interesting. </p> </figcaption> </figure> 3. <small> Redefined
You possibly still add the type attribute to your link and script tags. <link rel="stylesheet" href="path/to/stylesheet.css" type="text/css" dj mixer /> <script type="text/javascript" src="path/to/script.js"></script>
This is no longer necessary. It's implied that both of these tags refer to stylesheets and scripts, respectively. As such, we can remove the type attribute all together. <link rel="stylesheet" href="path/to/stylesheet.css" /> <script src="path/to/script.js"></script> 5. To Quote or Not to Quote.
...That is the question. Remember, HTML5 is not XHTML. You don't have to wrap your attributes in quotation marks if you don't want to you. You don't have to close your elements. With that said, there's nothing wrong with doing so, if it makes you feel more comfortable. I find that this is true for myself. <p class=myClass id=someId> Start the reactor.
The new browsers have a nifty new attribute that can be applied to elements, called contenteditable . As the name implies, this allows the user to edit any of the text contained within dj mixer the element, including its children. There are a variety of uses for something like this, including an app as simple as a to-do list, which also takes advantage of local storage. <!DOCTYPE html> <html dj mixer lang="en"> <head> <meta charset="utf-8"> <title>untitled</title> </head> <body> <h2> To-Do List </h2> <ul contenteditable="true"> <li> Break mechanical cab driver. </li> <li> Drive to abandoned factory <li> Watch video of self </li> </ul> </body> </html>
If dj mixer we apply a type of "email" to form inputs, we can instruct the browser to only allow strings that conform to a valid email address structure. That's right; built-in form validation will soon be here! We can't 100% rely on this just yet, for obvious reasons. In older browsers that do not understand this "email" type, they'll dj mixer simply fall back to a regular textbox. <!DOCTYPE html> <html lang="en"> <head> <meta charset="utf-8"> <title>untitled</title> </head> dj mixer <body> <form action="" method="get"> <label for="email">Email:</label> <input id="email" name="email" type="email" /> <button type="submit"> dj mixer Submit Form </button> dj mixer </form> </body> </html>
It dj mixer should also be noted that all the current browsers are a bit wonky when it comes to what elements and attributes they do and don't support. For example, Opera seems to support email validation, just as long as the name attribute is specified. dj mixer However, it does not support the placeholder attribute, which we'll learn about in the next tip. Bottom line, don't depend on this form of validation just yet...but you can still use it! 8. Placeholders
Before, we had to utilize a bit of JavaScript to create placeholders for textboxes. Sure, you can initially set the value attribute how you see fit, but, as soon as the user deletes dj mixer that text and clicks away, the input will be left blank again. The placeholder attribute remedies this. <input name="email" type="email" placeholder=" dj mixer [email protected] " />
Again, support is shady at best acros
