CF Møller Architects has won the competition webs to build a new, closed state to the prison island of Falster. The new state prison for approximately 250 inmates is designed as a low, urban structure, centered around several facilities for both leisure and work, which are joined by way of streets and a central square.
The design creates an urban environment that interacts with the landscape on both sides of the high perimeter wall of six meters. As a compact structure, allowing urban development that includes natural areas and other allocations for education, areas for livestock and to the integration of sports facilities into the landscape within the perimeter. The idea is to have a varied webs and stimulating environment.
In the center contains various programs, an administration webs building, occupying a building and a cultural center with a library, a room of worship, sports facilities and a shop. Each individual building has its own identity within the complex. The cultural center, which is round in shape, has a glass roof, surrounded by strips of green.
The six meters high wall, with its corners and variations generate webs star-shaped perimeter that gives us a dynamic webs sequence, the least restrictive to give a sense of dialogue with the outside world look. CF Møller Architects has won the competition in collaboration with the engineering firm Rambølly Denmark in close exchange with Marianne Levinsen Scenery, also design company Aggebo and Henriksen and working environment with the consulting firm CRECEA.
Eight teams were pre-qualified for the contest. The other architectural firms that participated were Arkitema Schmidt Hammer Lassen, Lundgaard and Tranberg, Erik Møller Arkitekter, PLH ARKITEK-ter, a team of both Kjær and Richter and Aart and a team of Henning Larsen Architects and Friis & Moltke. The jury was composed of a number of expert judges, representatives of laMunicipalidad of Guldborgsund, representatives of the Danish Institute for Human Rights, the Danish Palaces and Properties Agency, and the Danish Prison and Probation. Falster new prison is part of a long-term plan to replace old and obsolete buildings of the Danish Prison and Probation Service. The plan is to close Vridsløselille State Prison, which dates back to 1859, when the new state prison into use between 2015/2016. The winning entry will be displayed in the library of Nørre Alslev, Falster, in December. In 2011, all the proposed competition will be exhibited webs in Akademisk Arkitektforening, Copenhagen.
