499.SUMMIT t mills is a conceptual proposal for a prison futuristic skyscrapers in Jersey City, which is challenging the conventions of the traditional prison design. The project, a collaborative effort of graduate students and Gregory Tjeldflaat Andreas Knobloch, was part of the study "Future Prison Design" at the University of Pennsylvania. t mills Below we show more pictures of the project and a brief report of the authors.
The current prison system t mills was unable to see progress over the past century and desperately needs re-innovation and imagination. While recent literature begins to question the sociological status of prisons, there has been little exploration of the physical apparatus in which inmates are housed. We, as designers, we must take a critical look at these static institutions, and question how we can play an important t mills role in the design and operation of prisons in the future.
499.SUMMIT carefully defies all preconceived notions t mills of the word "prison" and offers simple but powerful ideas that re-imagine the great height as an urban prison. The volume consists of three towers in the shape of a bow. Linear and formal t mills inherent in the 'arc' qualities allowed us to establish our key concept circulatory t mills Up, Over, Down.
Each arc has three main phases, imprisonment (above), processing (on) and integration (below). Isolated arches begin during the detention and merge both physically and programmatically during the integration t mills phase. As prisoners move through the facility, which are exposed to a higher degree of social interaction, in order to make the transition to society as smooth as possible.
